The book, Born Under a Million Shadows, is a very good book. There are many reasons for this. One reason is the setting. The setting of the book is located in Afghanistan. Since the setting of the book is in Afghanistan, the reader gets to learn more about life as an Afghan and the culture there. While reading the book, the reader learns that the main character, Fawad, and his family live off of stolen money. This teaches the reader about the conditions of the country and the families that live there. Another reason why this book is noteworthy is the perspective of the people living there. Most of the people there are either anti-Western or anti-Taliban. The anti-Taliban part doesn't surprise the reader as much as the anti-western part. Since a lot of the readers reading this book live in the West, they aren't accustomed to anti-Western views. For example, in the book Fawad and his best friend Spandi take part in anti-Western riots because everybody else was. A third reason why this book is noteworthy is because of the constant threat of war. This book takes place during the years when the Northern Alliance fights and beats the Taliban. However, there is still fighting going on and there are always stories of bombs killing people. This fighting has a huge impact towards the middle of the book when a huge twist comes into the story. However I won't spoil it for future readers. These are some reasons why I believe that the book, Born Under a Million Shadows, is a book that is worth reading. This is a book that follows an Afghani boy named Fawad. Fawad lives with his mother who works as a maid for some western people. He goes through many different adventures, some of them involving hardship and loss, and others involving pure happiness. I really like the way this book presents itself because it puts you inside the head of Fawad. It shows how most of the people think in Afghanistan and can really give you a larger perspective on the world. Overall I would reccomend this book because it is very interesting and gets you thinking quite a bit.
