This is the first Mary Balough book I ever read, and also my favorite. It's nice and short and I read it in a flash. The two protagonists are great, and the story has a most excellent twist in the middle. Balough deliciously hints at the twist before finally putting it out in the open, after which the reader is in for a terrifically fun ride at the end of which you can't help but smile. This is much lighter in tone than Balough's usual fare, which I think is why I liked it so much - it is immensely enjoyable without being a load of fluff - there is still real depth to the characters and their story despite the playfulness of it. I will definitely read this again at some point. I was surprised this short novel was written in 2010 and I had never read it. I love Mary Balogh and this is one of her best. I do not want to give much away because there are many twists to the story, but I will say, one of the best endings ever. I may recommend this for my book club, because it is lovely, has an author interview and discussion questions. An Earl's daughter and a rich cit's son, 2 wonderful characters, flashbacks,and a love story.
