About book Mary Mary Quite Contrary (2000)

This is one of my favorite prequels, it was better than all the previous sequels simply because this seemed to be the darkest and most twisted out of all the prequels. There's no annoying characters and lame jokes. I love the blending of folklore legend and history to a fairytale story. I especially love the author's incorporation of Queen Bathory history as a background to the Evil Queen's story. This prequel was a bit unique for me since Jace actually recognized some referencing to the Abrahamic Faiths preferably Judaism and Christianity. I was taken aback - not in a bad way - that this would be included in this prequel itself. Being a believer and an aggressive student in the Holy Bible and Bible history, this brought a smile to my face. Not to mention, it is said that the apples from the Tree of Life are golden too (along with the belief it wasn't an apple on the tree).Anyways, the story is told through the eyes of Lucifer/Satan/Beelzebub and other unique names he may have. However, it talks about some old history about Elizabeth and Bloody Mary. I like how Jace mixed in both folklore and how it ties in to the Magic Mirror that the Evil Queen has.Just like the other books in the prequels, I suggest everyone to start with #1 and go from there. After you read the seventh prequel, you may go and read Jace's first full-written novel which I am looking forward to reading. Also, I didn't put much emphasis on what is going on here since it is a short story and a lot of it does have backreading references too.
