Neil Gaiman: great speech, good advice, honest, accepting of the conventional and unconventional, and simple.Chip Kidd: love the layouts, varying from simple to a little less simple, beautiful and uncomplicated color palette, interesting, creative, and just laid out well. A cute little book. Though I generally enjoyed this, I still wonder, was it worth it to make a book out of a speech? I am looking forward to watching the speech on Vimeo later. Too bad links don't work on hardcover books.... An enjoyable read, but sadly it did not feel very inspirational for where I am in life right now. In fact, some of the advice is a bit disheartening since it suggests the opposite of the projected course of my current life. I am trying to build a career in librarianship, which, though it has its charms, is a rather quotidian sort of job compared to Gaiman's own self-described path in life. But it is not really a job of pursuing ones dreams; my creative endeavors are consigned to hobby status. But I'm also not the audience that was originally being addressed, graduates of a school focusing on art and design. So I probably should be going in a different direction.

The speech was good, the graphic art format was irritating. My rating was for the text only.

One of my all-time favourite authors, this was another example of why. Very inspiring.
