I am quite smitten with this little graphic novel, even though the librarians are the bad guys. gasp. The Lunch Lady is back to save the day against th evil doers at the school. This time, school and public librarians scheme to destroy the newest game console which they fear is the reason children won't participate in the readathon. The League of Librarians take matter into their own hands by ambushing the delivery of the game systems. Hilarity ensues when the librarians' weapons include dictionaries (which are thrown at the head of the delivery men), as well as classic characters from books (such as Black Beauty). The Lunch Lady retaliates by linguine-lassoing the horse. In the end, the Lunch Lady allows children in the library to read while they wait for a turn on the new game console. I'm not sure this is the best message to be sending to young readers...that reading is the boring thing we must endure until we can play the sparkly exciting game. But still, a fun graphic novel that made me giggle more than once. This is the first book in this series that I've read. I ordered a bunch of them for my library. I'm interested to see how the kids like them--a bunch of 3rd and 4th graders are big into graphic novels right now, and I wanted to try to find a good series for them to get into. Hoping this is it!For the record, I really wish the librarians had been the good guys. Such is life...hopefully eventually that stereotypical librarian image will be changed!

I get the appeal, but as a librarian I feel a little insulted.
