Read and find out!This book is a super quick read, has very little characterization, and is set at school. 3 adjectives I would use to describe this book are: simple, animal-lover, compassionate. I would hand this book to an advanced 1st grade reader or kids in 2nd-3rd grade. Kids who love animals or have lots of pets would enjoy this book.Read-a-likes:Other "Lulu" books, because obviously they are similar in format."Keena Ford and the Second-Grade Mix-Up" by Melissa Thomson, because they both highlight African-American girls in early elementary school going through similar "mix-ups". This is a book of Lulu who is known for her love of pets but when she finds that her teacher isnt really interested in animals she works hard to find a pet just right for her teacher. When the teacher threatens to replace the class pet for stick bugs Lulu attempts to back off with bothering the teacher. While out with the class she manages to get ahold of a duck egg and what she wasn't expecting was for it to hatch while she was in class. This book is cute, sweet and my little siblings and I really enjoyed reading this book together. This book reminded me of my little animal loving sister who would bring any animal she can home. It's perfect to read in class or for fun at home with any child between grades 1 to 3. The illustrations really caught my siblings eyes and overall the children really enjoyed this book.
