About book Love Your Life: Living Happy, Healthy, And Whole (2008)
Bestselling author Osteen, co-pastor with husband Joel of the United States' largest church, adroitly uses anecdotes, biblical passages, aphorisms, and meditation points to deliver an uplifting, practical, and accessible Christian manual for happiness and fulfillment. She encourages women to consider and take responsibility for their influence on their loved ones and their impact on the larger world, develop self confidence and make the most of their abilities. Osteen emphasizes the importance of self-care, self-esteem, and positive attitude. She illustrates repeatedly what can be achieved by sitting quietly with God and by embracing the healing power of love. This installment of the power of positive thinking genre delivers a decidedly refreshing female perspective, written by a woman for women, and deals primarily with the development of a healthy self-image and fulfilling family relationships. Its faults are those typical of the genre in the overstatement of an individual's ability to change her circumstances through positive attitude. Nevertheless, this is a warmly and plainly written inspirational book with which many will identify. An excellent selection for Christian women's book groups, this is likely to be a popular read. Recommended for bookstores, public libraries, and congregational venues where Christian themes are popular. Victoria Osteen's book is just as uplifting as her husband's are. She has a very positive message and hopeful outlook on life. I read another review of this book on Goodreads where the woman said that listening to this book was like sitting at a coffee shop with a girlfriend talking about life. I found that to be true. I was particularly struck by what she had to say about forgiveness: "Forgiveness is more than mere words, it's a heart attitude that turns into a spiritual transformation". Apparently forgiveness is on my mind, because I remember commenting on that topic in my recent review of Joel Osteen's book. Anyway, I found this book very interesting, an easy read, and it gave me lots to think about. I hope you enjoy it, too.
