About book Love Letters Of Great Men (2008)

This is definitely one of those books you should pick up every once in a while and read a few letters at a time instead of reading all at once. The letters were extremely adorable, although some of them were obviously meant to be fillers. Some of my favorites were written by Lewis Carroll, Victor Hugo and Mark Twain. Overall the book was very well organized and put together. The biographical summaries at the end of each letter helped to understand the writer more and give a brief history if you are unsure of who the man is. I highly recommend this if you’re looking for a fun, interesting, and easy read. I really enjoyed this one! This work includes letters from Washington, Goethe, Twain, and others. I love reading personal material of people who write fiction or NF. It shows a whole other side to them and either makes me go, 'I was right, they were fabulous' or 'OMG, what a jerk'! (like Cromwell's letter). My favorite part (apart for Twain's letter to Livy, where he apologized for the sappy drivel he'd written above, but he'd promised her never to throw away and not send a letter he'd written her), was how after each letter, Kirkland would write a little synopsis of the two people's relationship so that the context of the letter would be understood.Oh, oh! There was also a letter from Robert Browning to Elizabeth before they were married. Come on. You have to read it for that at least.
