This is my first Nick Spalding book, and I must say it is actually a really quick read. Unfortunately I was not that smitten with the storyline. The chapters are broken up into Hers/His chapters- she is supposedly writing in a journal and he is supposedly writing on a blog however I found that the writing style for each writing style was wrong. The HER chapters (Laura's Diary chapters) to me just sounded plain and very much like a book and not much like a journal at all. They also seemed a bit wordy and long for a journal. The HIS chapters (Jamie's Blog) were much the same and did not have the feel of a blog to me. The fact that it was specified into Diary/Blog would to me think not only would the voice be different but the writing style. But maybe I am just being picky.I also felt that the story was missing something I can't quite put my finger on. The backstory maybe? It made me wonder if this is not a sequel and I wasn't just missing something. I don't know if that is the reason, but I had trouble connecting to the characters in any real sort of way. They were flat to me. That said this book did have some humorous sections- I was especially fond of the his/hers re-tellings of the great reveal to his family that they were expecting- specifically Laura's Diary chapter about it. To me this book was just okay...so I am rating it only three stars. I would have given it just two - but there are some humorous elements to it. I had read Love…From Both Sides, and really enjoyed it, and so like others I was very much looking forward to Nick Spalding’s latest novel, Love…And Sleepless Nights. In Love…And Sleepless Nights we catch up with Jamie and Laura who find themselves in the situation where they are about to have a baby together.I thoroughly enjoyed this book! The novel alternates between Jamie and Laura’s parts, told in the forms of a blog and diary. I really loved the way this was written as I really felt like I could connect with them both individually as well as a pair. As I could read their thoughts and feelings and see things from their perspective, I felt as though throughout the course of the book I really knew them as well as I would a friend.I don’t want to say too much about this book because it is genuinely hilarious and I worry that I might ruin it by talking about events that happen. But what I will say is that there are many laugh out loud moments….at a few points I was overcome with laughter and ended up snorting with laughter in quite an embarrassing way, but the story is so funny that you just can’t help yourself!I’ve not long finished reading this fantastic novel and I already can not wait to see what Nick Spalding brings out next!Love…And Sleepless Nights is such a fun book! It will make you cry with laughter! It is hilarious, highly enjoyable and it is a book that you won’t want to put down. I’m now telling everyone I know to give it a try! Brilliant.
