About book Lose Weight Without Dieting (2010)

This book is kind of silly. It advises eating what your ancestors ate. That is good advice, or at least it can be. But the author says that what he means by that is that we should actually find out what our relatives ate 200 years ago and eat exactly that. The idea that our genes have changed very little in the last 10 000 years and that actually we should be eating the same things people ate 10 000 years ago because that is what our genes are adapted to best has completely passed this author by. The book lacks research to back it up but also logic and common sense. This book is big on the ‘laws of attraction’ nonsense/scam. Reason enough to ignore it all by itself. The author says we can ‘achieve literally anything’ with our brains. This of course is true, if you literally ignore the billions of exceptions to this concept. Sigh. The author says we don’t stick to cabbage soup diets long term because we get bored. So...nothing to do with the fact they lack so many essential nutrients and macro-nutrients such as protein and fat that our bodies would of course be screaming at us to eat better to be healthy and have energy then? If we could just be excited somehow by eating endless cabbage soup we’d stick to the diet fine and enjoy perfect health forevermore? What a load of nonsense. Yes, advice to exercise endlessly and to eat very low calorie and high carb is working so well for people so far. Of course that makes sense. If you eat real food you don't have to fuss with endless strategies to stop you overeating. Overeating is linked to junk food, and nutritionally empty food and very high sugar and carb consumption etc. This book is full of silly quick fixes and tricks and ignores most of the real problems and their causes. The author writes about evolution and how this affects what we should eat but this is based on his own short random musings, rather than any actual research or even deep thought. The arrogance of putting your own silly thoughts on a topic in a book and trying to advise people that way instead of researching it is kind of mind blowing. This book is very badly researched and written. It should be avoided. It does contain a few okay bits about avoiding junk food, but then so does every ¼ page trashy magazine article on diet, and probably more convincingly. This book can only appear good if you haven’t come across even a half good nutrition book ever. It misses out so much vital information and research. There are so many better book choices out there, don’t waste your time with this even if it is free.Jodi Bassett, The Hummingbirds' Foundation for M.E. (HFME) and Health, Healing & Hummingbirds (HHH) I agree with what he says in his book about animals only eating when they are hungry. I also agree with his strategies.... don't eat in front of tv... wait 7 minutes before eating.... don't finish everything on your plate because it is there... exercise and be active. What I did not like is his exercise plan which is a mixture of isometrics.... yoga and PUSH UPS! I think walking and doing things U enjoy is more effective besides I never saw a squirrel doing the sun salutation!
