Christmas Cowboy is a short novella that focuses on Corrigan Hart and Dorie Wayne’s story. Corrigan Hart is one of the famous Hart Brothers. He was known for his cold temper and iron will. And he’s set his sights on Dorie Wayne. Never to pull his punches before, Corrigan made his intentions about right at the start. He was drawn to her. He wanted her. Dorie Wayne was eighteen when she met Corrigan. As a minister’s daughter, she was raised to have a conventional outlook in life. Even though she loved him, she wouldn’t let herself settle for an affair. She wanted a home, a husband, children and everything and he made clear that he wanted no part of marriage or a family. That he only wanted to sleep with her. So she left town and never came back until her father passed away eight years later.I enjoyed reading their story. Although it was short Ms. Palmer was still able to give us a wonderful tale about second chances. I was prepared to dislike Corrigan for treating her that way. But when I learned the reason why didn’t like the idea of marriage, I began to understand him. And I liked the fact that he haven’t touched a woman since Dorie left (for eight years.). He’s became a hermit. Poor guy. I admired Dorie. She’s such a strong woman and have so much self-respect that even though she loved him desperately she didn’t gave in to his selfish demands. I enjoyed reading about the Hart brothers and their love for biscuits. I loved how they helped Corrigan to get Dorie. It was pretty hilarious and endearing. Poor Dorie, she doesn't stand a chance. It was just a waste that they waited eight years to finally have their happy ending. But I guess no matter how long it takes, true love is always worth the wait.
LONE STAR CHRISTMAS contains two novellas that are part of the Long Tall Texans and Hawk's Way series. While I read both, I'm not likely to read any books in the Hawk's way series for a while. My main concern in reading this book was to find out more about Corrigan Hart and his now wife, Dorie. In the novella titled CHRISTMAS COWBOY, Corrigan reconnects with his former girl-friend Dorie Wayne. Dorie's fear of Corrigan drove her away from Jacobsville, Texas when she was eighteen. She ran off to New York to become a model but found only heartache instead. Meanwhile, Corrigan has become a recluse and all his brothers and the citizens of Jacobsville know, or suspect, is that he is mourning his lost relationship with Dorie. When Dorie returns to settle her father's affairs after his death, she reveals to a friend that she really wants to come home to Jacobsville and who's standing in the café when she reveals this? Corrigan Hart. The Hart boys are known for fast wedding preparations, especially if biscuits are involved and they want to see their brother Corrigan happy and married to a good cook. With Christmas fast approaching, Corrigan does his manner of courting with the help of his brothers. Their methods are hilarious and endearing and Dorie doesn't stand a chance of passing on marrying into this family. CHRISTMAS COWBOY while touching and tense, is also delightful. The story also gives us a glimpse of the estranged brother Simon Hart, Texas's former states attorney. It should come as no secret that next up for me in this series is BELOVED (Sil Desire #1189 1/99).
