Kevin Henkes is such a versatile author/illustrator. He has written novels, picture books, and chapter books. I believe he has mastered the art of the picture book. He uses framing and full-bleed photos throughout this book. The pastel colors are so vibrant and appear to be done in colored pencil. As the little white rabbit hops along he imagines what it would be like to be green, to be tall, to fly, and more. The detailed illustrations show the imaginative rabbit as he might look like if he really was green, or as tall as the pine trees, or flying in the sky like butterflies. I believe this book would appeal to preschoolers and kindergarteners because it builds on their growing curiosity and imagination. Near the end of the book the little white rabbit hops past a cat. What do you think he imagines then?
