A great starter for how to set-up a suburban backyard homestead. I picked this one up mainly for the gardening portion, and while I skipped the chicken and goat chapters completely, the chapters on bees, preserving and DIY beauty and cleaning products were great primers.Written by two friends, with two separate homesteads I enjoyed both their witty writing and the two different view points. One might love the process and one might prefer an easier get-er-done way for the same activity.The general layout of the book and any accompanying images were helpful, though I would have loved the addition of seeing an overall layout of each homestead.A great starter primer for many aspects of homesteading, a try-it and see-if-you-like-it approach that I found very accessible. Two women give a first hand look on how to make a simple life possible in the suburbs. With descriptions on how to raise your own flock of chickens, goats, bees and vegetable garden, and how to make your own natural cleaning supplies (both for house and body), this book is a great starting point for people interested in self sufficiency. Pros:Succinct information on lots of pertinent topics Two people = two ways of doing things. Maybe one of the writers does something that doesn't sound appealing to you, the other author may suggest a different method. Well written and in a manner that makes it clear it is fully possible to have the country lifestyle with out the land. Cons:Really not any. I guess the garden design is a little confusing (why are there two when the only apparent difference is the dots representing plants)Some of the website resources no longer work/exist (not the writers fault, just an observation)
