It was fun to read a story set during Halloween while it was Halloween! It was also nice that the politics were toned down in this book. Or maybe I just found the struggle of the Virginia Native Americans interesting! As for the motive to the murders....I'm not so sure. It makes sense but it probably would have been quicker to bump off the land owner and develop the property before Hester could have made trouble. I don't know. Motives for murder have always struck me as strange!Looking forward to the next book! The Mrs. Murphy series was always one of my favorites. The setting is beautiful Virginia horse country, with great well fleshed out characters, some talking animals and a good mystery at the heart of the story, but unfortunately in recent installments Ms. Brown has chosen to shoe horn her political and social beliefs into every story. Sometimes subtly and sometimes with brute force. It's become a real turn off and I'm thinking this will be the last time I read one of these books.
Pretty entertaining until the ending. The villains seem really improbable.
