I suspect the Spanish version is better than the English translation. Good story, although the end seems rushed. I think it has a distinctly female voice, beyond the actual main character's voice. For example, the effects of violence by and against the main character are explored in a little more depth than the movie Blade Runner or the book by Phillip K. Dick, enough to make me consider how distinctly masculine they are. I hope someday a Spanish film is made from this, not a Hollywood version (although I suspect that is unlikely anyways.) My take - this book absolutely has some interesting nuggets and I found the storyline very intriguing. I think the Blade Runner references were generally well done and I didn't feel like the book was "just a rip off." I do think that the writing was a little choppy in places but that could be due to the translation so I'll be a little generous there. I can't say I enjoyed every moment reading it but I found it thoughtful and I certainly didn't regret the time I spent on it. Bruna is not the most admirable protagonist and this story deliberately leaves some of her past in question, so at time you're not sure you actually like her. She finds herself in the middle of something so huge, with the potential to change all of society around her. Her friends and her enemies (the difference between the two isn't clear) create quite the odd cast of characters. If you can find a copy of this book at a good discount I think it's worth the time to read. If you want a 4 or 5 star book, you may want to keep looking.
