About book Letters Home (2000)

**I was gifted a copy of this book**I rarely read a book without looking at reviews first but I was so excited to read Letters Home after looking at the description that I went right in. I noticed that at the beginning of the first several chapters, it was told from only Danielle's POV. I kept thinking that at some point, I would get someone else's POV or else it didn't really make sense for the author to label each chapter. I found it odd that I wasn't getting to read Nate's POV but then I started to realize why...When tragedy struck, I was heartbroken and cried right along with Danielle. Losing her high school sweetheart, her "one and only" just weeks after their wedding was devastating! Knowing that you could lose your loved one to a war casualty and it actually happening are two different things.Months later, Danielle is introduced to Tanner, a member of Nate's squad, when he brings her a letter that Nate had written to her before he was deployed. Even though their first meeting ends with Danielle once again broken and upset, the chemistry between them was instant. Both dealing with their own grief at the loss of Nate, the two quickly became friends and started spending all of their time together. I loved the connection between them (I actually felt their connection more than her connection with Nate) and I was rooting for their HEA. I enjoyed getting Tanner's POV and reading about his feelings for her. Danielle had several issues to overcome and Tanner stuck by her through it all. These two had a long journey and several obstacles to deal with, Tanner unable to contain his love for her while the memory of Nate held her back from admitting her feelings and moving on with someone else. Overall, I found Letters Home to be a beautiful story about love, loss and second chances. There were some typos and editing issues that were a little distracting at times but not too bad. Looking forward to continuing Tanner and Danielle's story in Coming Home. I really enjoyed the story and wanted to give it more stars but had some trouble with the editing... It was not a problem with misspelling or spacing but more of timelines. There were several times that the timeline seemed off, for instance when Dani called Tanner the first time to hang out... At first it was a Saturday then all of a sudden it was Friday... It was little things like that which caused me some challenges. The story however and the characters were amazing. The way that Dani had a second chance was heartwarming yet it showed the struggle that happens in situations like this where one does not want to dishonor the memory of another. The tissues are needed throughout both for good and bad and the letters will absolutely break your heart...
