About book Let's Do Nothing! (2009)

This is a book about two boys that are bored to death and decide that they are going to do nothing. This book is very humorous and captivating for readers. Teachers could turn this into a lesson that focuses on predicting what is going to happen next. For example, the first thing the boys decide to do is pretend to be statues, but then the boy in glasses thinks he's covered in pigeons so he shoos them off on the next page. So then the boys decide to be redwood trees, what do you think will happen? (The boy in glasses thinks a dog pees on him). At the end of the story, the boys come to the conclusion that you cannot do nothing, which would be a good discussion to have with your class. I also like this book because you could compare the two boys personalities: the first boy is the leader and the boy in glasses is the follower, and you could come up with examples to support that. This book is an easy read, it has great pictures, and there are several lessons teachers could do with it. This book was my second TumbleBook. I thought that the idea behind this book was great. How long can children do nothing? The reader will find out. Viewing the listening to the story this way was great I thought for independent reading or paired reading. I really thought this was a great little story that would be fun for children to read and would really help them work on their reading skills. Overall not my favorite book in the least, but definitely something worth reading again and perhaps introducing to my future students.
