About book Les Justes (2013)

A murder mystery set among a polygamist settlement in Utah. The outside world is not informed and one of their own is sent from another settlement to investigate the killing of a sister wife. In addition to reluctantly check out two potential husbands for his 17-yearold sister. The writer was raised in similar circumstances and I found the inside descriptions of the everyday life and the beliefs fascinating. The main characters are nicely conflicted and, being a mystery, nothing is quite what it seems. Close to thriller in the suspense department, too. I will try more in this series. I don't generally read murder mysteries, but I was attracted to this story's uncommon setting in a polygamist Mormon community. (And, I downloaded it as part of a freebie frenzy when I first got my Kindle Fire.) I have no idea whether the Mormon practices described in this book are realistic (either for Latter Day Saints or for polygamist sects), but as someone who reads a lot of sci fi, I'm always on the look out for internal consistency -- the story "feels" real. I would describe the experience of reading this book as good summer trash novel meets brutal murders wrapped inside an ongoing spiritual and religious debate. It is the kind of book you can read in a day (if you don't put it down between murders, of course). The story is set in an outsider community filled with religious people and centers around attempts to uncover a conspiracy. The main character is a follower, but not necessarily a believer, of the religion, and he's also a physician-in-training. His detachment (both religiously and scientifically) allows the reader to explore the community more objectively. The book seemingly aims to be more highbrow than the average murder mystery, but I don't think it quite meets the mark. The antagonists are not nearly as well developed as the protagonists, so you never really understand their motivation. I'm ok with that, for a quick summer read, and that's the main reason it has 4 stars instead of 5.I'd recommend this book for readers who like murder mysteries, novels about outsider communities, and those who enjoy reading about bizarre conspiracies.

Do You like book Les Justes (2013)?

This book was pretty good. It got a little too religious for me at times, but I did like the story.

I didn't finish this book --too many good books to read than to read one I'm not enjoying.
