Imagine if your hair could kill you; that the colour you choose could infect you with a rage that made you go crazy. The Blondes offered this wacky plot and presented a new pandemic that seemed fresh in the midst of many zombie apocalypse story lines. Living in the middle of this spreading disease is Hazel Hayes, a PHD student who is dealing with discovering she is pregnant by her thesis advisor. Trying to get home to tell him, she is quarantined at the border because her hair is a shade too close to deadly blonde. I really liked this! It was different and written in a non linear way that had you trying to place everything together till the end. My one criticism is that it wrapped up a tad too fast in the last ten pages, but I won't judge that too harshly. Overall a fun, offbeat read. Blondes world wide are becomming mysteriously infected by a bizzare plague killing hundreds then thousands. This author has painted a very vivid picture of both the mayham and the catastrophic changes this has on the main characters, weaving in social commentaries on multiple subjects.My only legitimate complaint would be the ending, which felt unfinished and half-hearted...but maybe I always want more when the story is rich and unique.
I don't know what I really expected out of this book. It was an okay story, but it didn't grip me.
