This book has everything a girl could want: fairy tales, action, and kick butt heroines. I have to thank Steph from Barnes and Noble for recommending it. Jim Hines does an excellent job creating realistic, relatable characters. I liked that the Grimm fairy tale versions were used instead of the Disney ones and enjoyed the drastically different characters. I would have to say that Snow White was my favorite. Hines does a great job of bringing to life some one-dimensional fairy tale characters. He fleshes out these characters with certain abilities and sensibilities that make perfect sense, given the limited background we all know from those childhood stories. Very enjoyable, although I caught a couple of continuity mistakes that the editor missed. He does take the easy way out a few times to resolve a sticky situation by not describing the action but effectively having the character walk into the room and dust off their hands when the action's over, leaving the read to ponder "How did she get out of THAT one?"
