Hopefully I can coax my group members to make this an all-read! This ghostly mystery is laden with intrigue and reader appeal for grades 4-7.When Anita moves to Alaska temporarily, she meets a new friend who is just as interested as she is in reading and....ghosts! Anita's parents are "taking a break" while writer-Dad researches sled dogs for his new book. Meanhiwle, Anita and her new bff think they have seen a ghost dog. Is it the legendary Balto? Or is this ghost dog related to another local tall tale? With her little brother in tow, Anita decides to solve the mystery....will the treacherous Alaskan weather cooperate during this quest, or will they find themselves "out cold"? (Sorry, I couldn't resist!)Themes: Alaska, Balto, sled dogs, divorce, ghosts, blizzard survival, local rumors/tall talesAnnotation: According to local legend, a mysterious ghost dog haunts the woods of Anita's new hometown in the Alaskan wilderness. Could these stories be true? And if so, who is this ghost dog....and what does it want? This realistic fiction book was so much better than this year's Ghost Dog Secrets, I wish it had been on the list instead! It's a definite yes vote for me. It takes place in Alaska which made it even more enjoyable. Tee is in Alaska with her dad who is researching a book, her younger brother Jack, and her dog Henry. On a walk, they discover a mysterious shadow in the woods that Tee starts to investigate. It ends up leading to another mystery that Tee is determined to solve.
