About book Le Lion Et L'oiseau (2013)

This book took my breath away. I sat down to read it with my son. Just another kid's book, I thought to myself. Then I started reading. And I loved it. And I grew sad for the lion. But I told my son it would work out in the end. Because, he got sad, and I was sad. Because it's sad when the bird leaves and the lion slogs through winter. And then something happens...I love this book. Immediately went into my top 5 of all time. Seriously. 1. For Whom The Bell Tolls 2. Crime and Punishment 3. War of the Worlds 4. The Lion and the Bird 5. Where the Wild Things Are With perfectly sparse text and beautiful, soft, watercolor-and-colored-pencil illustrations, Dubuc tells a simple story about a lion who cares for a wounded bird. The two become friends, but the bird’s migration means they can’t always be together. The emphasis on gardening through the seasons echoes the motif of the ups, downs, and new beginnings of friendships. This is a beautiful, sweet book.
