About book Last Man To Die (2010)

Not the best WWII novel Ive read (That might be "Eye of the Needle" by Ken Follett), but it was fine enough.Lots of talking between politicians and generals, and youre waiting for the story to get to the point. (The author was an advisor to Margaret Thatcher, so he knows his topic; his topic isnt all that great for a thriller novel). The novel is like two novels. I wont give anything away, but the first half makes the reader think one thing, then there's a very good twist that begins the second half. (Loved it, caught me by surprise; no hints). But then once the twist has been revealed, the second hald of the novel becomes something different. The reader is made to think differently. That's fine, thats a good thing.But. Explain why and how the twist occurs. The character in question is one man in the beginning then a different man at the end. (Not too much revealed.) If he's really the person in the second half of the novel, then why was he the person in the first half? Where did the change happen? (And how did he talk to a certain poltician in order to get his new orders? This is not explained.)A major error I thought in the story. An unexplained twist is not fun, it should be eventually explained.Anyway, the story is apparently based on a true story, sort of. Read the epilogue by the author, he explains what he thinks happened.etc.But the reader is wondering from his story what happened, and is left guessing at the end. Not a good conclusion.Took two days to finish it. If you got two days, read on, see what I mean. Maybe you can figure it out. (He advised for Thatcher....)
