About book Land Of Seven Rivers: History Of India's Geography (2012)

A very confused attempt with history. the Author tries to adjust too much of history with a little relevance. In a single page four different topics are discussed and suddenly you feel why the hell that was required. Sanjeev Sanyal probably tried to choose the currently famous topic among us all after the success of Amish Tripathi and Ashwin Aanghi. But didn't manage to reach the mark.Too much study was done by the author and he thought of not wasting any of his research paper on one hand and tried to minimize the book size on the other. 200 pages book was perhaps not good enough to handle the plethora of knowledge he wanted to accumulate. Absolutely loved Sanjeev's writing style! The issues dealt with ie. Aryan Invasion debate, drawing links from Hindu culture's oldest texts (Vedas) to draw geographical history & explaining it in today's context. Sea trade, India's links with South east Asia, flow of trade & culture. Jump over to Medieval Mughal and British times, the fascinating task of drawing the map of India undertaken by British, disputes over which persist till today (Arunachal - China). Overall a brilliant book!
