this is the second in the Laid Bear books, as the title suggests and it Veronica and Jess' story. however, Bethany and Max play a large part of this tale. Normally I would say that's a good thing, however, they seem to take over this book, and its more a continuation of book one, with the added bit of Ronnie and Jess thrown in.Ronnie has decided she needs a man, after the death of her husband and the father of her twin boys. Jess has decided to dip his toes in the water a year after his divorce. Ronnie lives in Kodiak, and is a werebear, Jess is human. there is a group of bears in Kodiak that do not like human/bear matings and they go to great lengths to keep Ronnie and Jess apart.I did not enjoy this as much as the first, mainly because of the crossover of the two books, but I did like the little twist at the end, and the underlaying story about the bears killed with silver bullets, Max' parents, Ronnie's husband and now we have a suspect! I will almost certainly read any more that come out, but whether I would pay for them, I didn't this one, I don't know. If you haven’t read book one I would suggest that you do so prior to picking up this one, while there is enough backstory given here to catch you up, you’ll probably find yourself not appreciating some of the books characters as much as you would if you had read the first one. Alright, this one starts off with Veronica chatting with the man she’s been getting to know online the last several months, Jess. Veronica has been single since the father of her twin boys passed away. It’s not uncommon for were-bears to remain single once they lose their mates, especially when there are cubs involved. Jess is ready to move things forward… he wants to meet. Normally, this would be the excited, happy stage of their romance, but it’s not. Jess is a human and Veronica is a were-bear. Their being together is considered taboo and she could be shunned. Not knowing what to do she contacts Ursa Love.Bethany and Max from book one come on the scene and things go crazy fast. I won’t give any of the plot away, because while it’s a crazy ‘who done it’ that will leave you scratching your head to figure things out it’s also a serious case of WTH!? There is mystery, adventure, love, sex, and enough pregnancy hormones to enrage a whole pack of momma bears. If you enjoy Paranormal Romance then you should take a chance on this one.
