I won this book in a First Reads give away. This was quite an exciting novel that takes place in 1559, in Queen Elizabeth's court. The Maids of Honor are all quite enchanting and unique ypung ladies. The story line moved quickly with lots of action and intrigue. There were a few times I was lost with the plots to harm the Crown, but eventually would catch up. It was a great book that I would recommend to others. I look forward to the next one. I was really surprised by this book. I, for one, LOVE historical fiction and I'm kinda obsessing over Mary Queen of Scots, but when I same the cover of this book with the girls in medieval dresses, I had to buy it. Ok, so I know this isn't about the Queen of Scots, but Elizabeth's her cousin, so I thought, 'eh, close enough.' And I'm really glad that I got it. Meg is a thief working with the Golden Rose, an acting group that travels and, while acting, has some inside members pick pocket the audience. Meg being one of those members. But one day she gets caught and the Queen herself asks for Meg. So she goes to the palace and gets recruited as a spy for the Queen. There are four other girls that are spies alongside Meg, Beatrice; the manipulative, mean spirited beauty. Anna; the romantic scholar. Sophia; the quiet Seer. And finally, Jane; the beautiful killer. Quite an odd bunch, but they are all great at what they do. Meg then has to start following around the charming Count Race de Martina and soon finds herself falling for him, but as the question lingers in the air of who killed the girl before Meg, she doesn't know if falling for him would be such a good idea. For she suspects that he might be Marie's killer. Like I said, I loved this book! I couldn't put it down once I started reading it! I truly recommend this book to every one!
