Discovered this on the Kindle when I thought I'd cleared my MC Beaton backlog so just motored straight in. It's a better than some of hers romance (no mystery subplot in this one) which works out quite nicely and quite creatively. I suspect from the ending that it may be the jumping off point for a short series, but the way the Regency Royals are published, you'd never know that and you'd be pushed to find out. Fun easy reading, although reading four back to back has made me notice some of the repetitions and things more than usual. As I've said, I think I'll give Beaton's regencies a rest for a while now (or until some get reduced/turn up for free again). See my previous review for my growing disillusionment/annoyance with some of these.
This was TERRIBLE. I like Lady Margery - she was entertaining and smart and strong. But the Marquess was a shit to her. He cheated on her and treated her terribly and set her up to be raped by his friend - and just because he did it all in the name of love doesn't excuse his behavior. When he admitted he loved her, I wanted her to do nothing else except slap him and divorce him. But telling him she loved him was the first real mistake she made. Being treated like shit by the man you love isn't romance - is domestic abuse.
