This is the second book in the Mad Passions series. It tells the story of Mary and Edward. This book continues the theme of dark pasts that keep catching up to our characters. Mary, who we first met in the first book in this series was forced into the asylum by her father. Now that she is out she does everything she can to make sure she is not caught...including becoming a duke's mistress. Edward doesn't think anything can touch his cold heart but when Mary comes into his life he begins to hope.I enjoyed this story more than the previous novel in the series. I liked that there were more characters involved in this book and the twist at the end. This revenge plot romance is dark, emotional, and intense. And that's what makes it such an unbelievably beautiful love story. From the first page, I was immediately immersed in the gritty, Gothic world of Victorian England. The characters, all flawed and struggling, are expertly drawn--especially Powers. Edward and Mary are an exceptional pair--both tortured, both battling demons. Their road to happiness is gripping and wonderful. Perfect pacing allowed these two tortured souls to come together in a deeply moving and satisfying way. In the end, their love connection is enhanced by the courage and strength each character discovers within themselves.I can't wait for the next installment in the Mad Passions series!!
