this book was good; definitely a page turner. it was basically a modern take on the great gatsby with some curve balls thrown in and it bothered me a bit that it was SO similar to the great gatsby.simmilarities:lenore=daisychas=tom buchananrichard-similar to nick caraway$$$$jez=gatsbyjez=killed by chas' lover (gatsby is killed by lover's husband but similar idea)the car=yellow!lily's husband is named WILSON which is the last name of the lover in the great gatsby!east cost! (Massachusetts is pretty close to new york)lenore leaves jez for chas just like daisy leaves gatsby for tom! i mean the author, JM Tohline is a great author- i love the themes he throws into the story through his narrator that really make you think about the "question of life." however again, at the end he has the same disposition as nick-they both feel pretty pessimistic about life...and emphasize how certain events have such a large impact on the pathway of life. i think im giving this book 4 stars b/c i liked the themes and the author's own unique style but not 5 b/c it copied the great Gatsby so much...but not low enough to get 3 stars. i wish i could have given it 3.5! What a strange bunch of people. It's hard to describe what I feel for this book. It is beautifully written and I love the poetic descriptions and the way they led me through the book. It's a thought provoking book. However I really can't get past my loathing of Lenore... She is along the same lines as Daisy from Gatsby..... A whirlwind of a character that causes mass destruction in everyone else's life whilst (oblivious) she tries to 'decide' how best to live hers. I find her thoroughly irritating.... But still, I like the book in much the same way as Gatbsy (not quite as much.... But getting there....).
Great book! Couldn't put it down. It draws you in with the suspense of what happens next.
