DNF about 25% through. When I first opened the book, I thought that it was going to be a hit. But the hero was so weak, the heroine was ok. I just couldn't continue reading a weak duke. Dukes are supposed to be strong, self assured, alpha. He was none of these. But the kicker was when she confessed to be his masked woman and all of sudden he knew. We were in his head and he told us how hard it was to sit across from her and want her. Never once did he indicate that he knew it was her. And then all of a sudden he's yelling at her for exposing it. Didn't make sense. It felt more like poor planning on the authors part. , so I've put the book on the shelf. I love historical romances, but most of all I love a heroine who knows what she wants and goes after it. Rose Danvers wants Greyden Kane, Duke of Ryeton, so she puts herself in a position to get him. Its completely scandalous, but she goes for it anyway. After her plan is set in motion she starts to get anxious, because regardless of everything Grey seems clueless. Greyden Kane, a scarred man in more ways than one, is obsessed(his words), with Rose Danvers. This obsession is so great that he seeks out women who reminds him of her,so that he can pretend that they are Rose. After all is said and done the two end up married and Rose and Greyden get what they both want, but have to deal with the consequences of their union. I loved that we got Grey's POV first, so we already get a feel for his feelings for Rose right away. I think it would have been harder to take if we didn't already know how he felt about her after all that she risked to try to be with him, with no guarantees, in the first place. This woman was loyal to this man,no matter what. She loved him flaws and all. I admire how she would stand up to anyone for him. She laid her heart out on the line at every turn and I am glad that he didn't trample all over it. Suffice it to say it was a very good read and very steamy considering. There may not be an abundance of sex scenes but the ones that are detailed were very steamy and very well done.
