Rides the line between YA and Adult, slightly on the YA side.Excellent as De Lint always is. Not my favorite, but that's a *really* high bar. It's very good as a coming of age story, in the same "there are real consequences and not everything is always perfect at the end" genre as Holly Black, though not nearly as dark. The near-final resolution with the big bad is somewhat anti-climactic... but it's supposed to be, that's part of the point. I loved it! In my book it's up there with the Elemental Assassin series and the Harry Potter series (which - trust me - is good) I think the plot was well thought out, I liked the characters, they were all relatable and well written. I think the little jackalope girl (forgot her name) she is way cute. I think what I liked most is that it wasn't predictable and it really catches your attention. I read this in one day because it just caught me. Actually I wasn't the one who discovered this book, my parents got it for me as a birthday present, and admittedly I didn't much like it at first. It looked boring, it didn't intrigue me the way book should (in my opinion), but mostly I was skeptical because it came from my parents, I i really doubt their choice in books.But I ended up loving it! It is so very well written! Charles de Lint is absolutely a genius!
