I am not sure how to rate this book. The writing was okay but definitely not mind-blowing. The story was similar to something I read before. But my biggest hangup was if everyone you meet is trapped in essentially some level of slavery how has the system endured? Perhaps a little more background information on the leaders would make a world of difference in my assessment of this novel. Right now I'm left wondering how such a system survived especially in the beginning. The premise of this book is very interesting. The excerpts from The Registry Guide for Girls and The Boy's Guide to Service are disturbing and fascinating. The development of the love interest is weak, predictable, and shallow. The ending is lame and unsatisfying. (Presumably this is because there are additional books planned in the series.) The combined effect of these +/- is that this book was an enjoyable read but not so much so that any desire to read the rest of the series was generated.
very good, and intriguing, but there's a sequel which isn't cool
