Un piccolo libro delicato e al tempo stesso crudo, nel quale su tutti i protagonisti incombono costanti il pericolo di essere divorati e la necessità di divorare. Perfino la pacifica protagonista deve mangiare gli anonimi bruchi o le stupefatte libellule, così è la natura. Ma in questo mondo rigido e spietato si può trovare uno spazio per coltivare piccole alleanze che diventano eterne amicizie, e per covare un uovo e un sogno. L'autrice coreana racconta la sua storia con sincerità e bravura, facendo affezionare a tutti i personaggi pure un lettore un po' cinico e brontolone come me. Il libro mi è stato regalato, io non lo avrei mai comprato perché faccio lo snob con questi titoli un po' facili e queste storie leggere. Mi sbagliavo e ne sono naturalmente contento. Forse è un libro un po' troppo duro per un bambino, ma a un adolescente potrebbe piacere molto Scout was a lucky hen who had survived the odds to live her dream: to escape the confines the coop and to hatch a chick of her own...except it wasn't a chick she had hatched, it was a duckling. The story is reminiscent of Animal Farm, Charlotte's Web and Babe. I had enjoyed the lush imagery and the little chicken's defiance to live her life as she had wanted and not as others had dictated for her. The story's conclusion was expectantly morose, but had left the reader satisfied that Scout had lived a full life with many hardships but no regrets.
