3 StarsFirst off, I love the writing of Jon Courtney Grimwood. He is an exceptional author. This book is no exception, it is well written, detailed, and atmospheric. This book is a fantastic time piece and it really brings to life the 14th century.I am not sure why I lost interest at the halfway mark, but I did. I just could not keep focused on the story from that point on and frequently found myself lost to as what I just read. I should have stopped and come back to this rather than push on.That being said, this is an Urban Fantasy done right. No cheesy high school love interests in this book. I loved parts of this book just not the whole. I have officially given up on this book - something I do pretty rarely. I tried twice to get into it, and I got more than halfway through, but I just can't bring myself to finish it. The writing is good, the world is fascinating, BUT... I hate all the characters! I don't care what happens to them. I kind of hope they all destroy each other. If you don't mind vicious, nasty characters and extreme violence (particularly towards girls - I won't call them women, most of them are under 16) this would be a great book. I had much the same reaction to Song of Ice and Fire, but at least in those books there were a few characters you could actually root for. I wanted to like this book, I just didn't.
Do You like book La Espada Maldita (2012)?
I started reading this and couldn't finish it... it manages to be a boring "action" book.

I really tried to like it. But it just dragged on too much.

Great ideas, but somehow a bit clumsily executed.
