I picked this book up while on vacation this summer because I had nothing else to read. It seemed like a good story (young woman's father, dying of cancer, reveals that he fathered a daughter 26 years ago, but always kept it a secret. young woman goes to meet 'new' half sister after father's death and tries to form a relationship) but it was a little difficult for me to get into. I appreciated the main character, but some of the relationships (like all of them) were a little hard to believer. Like how quickly she became best friends with her new sister's group of friends, how "emotionally shut down" her sister was, how she couldn't seem to break off her relationship with her boyfriend-- even though she was sleeping with the man of her dreams, etc. I was also annoyed with her attempts to be a counselor-- when she wasn't. (Maybe that's because of my day job)But all that aside, it was a quick and easy read and I ended up caring for the characters by the end of the book. 3.75 stars.I ended up liking this book way more than I initially thought I would. the start was a bit slow and depressing because of the circumstances, and I could not stand the character of Michael. Thankfully, that douche was not around the whole book!I enjoyed reading about Rebecca's time in Wiscasset, and all the people she met there. I liked getting to know all the characters in town and reading about their lives. I especially liked the character of Theo because he was considerate, helpful, and said some very thoughtful things.A couple of things bugged me about the book, and that's why I didn't rate it higher. Joy and Rebecca got too close too fast. I suppose they would have eventually, but it seemed to soon. Also, I was surprised that Rebecca cheated on Michael given that she was so upset and hurt that her father had cheated on her mother. It seemed a bit odd after everything that happened.That being said, I wondered what happened down the road once I got to the end of the book. Did everything turn out for the best? I'd love to know. :)
