About book Kleine Morde In Paris (2009)

Caper stories live and die by two things 1) the story and 2) the characters, this book has great characters...but the story kinda let the characters down in what could have been a fun art heist caper book to becoming a somewhat entertaining caper book with a resolution that was unearned and leaves the reader feeling yanked on a chain:World: I like these books, this is the second of a series from Ewan, I like the local and I like how Ewan tries to showcase the city and highlight what makes Paris...well Paris. When I saw the title I was expecting a trip through Paris and we do get it somewhat, the world in this book is there for background and setting and it does a fine job establishing Paris...as Paris.Story: The story started off quite fun and the premise was intersting, not going into spoilers the Bruno and the protege things was interesting, Victoria and the bookshop storyline were interesting. However, what really made this book lose momentum was the amount of jobs that were happening at the same time, sure I understand that Ewan was trying to create a sense of chaos for Charlie but I just felt it was just too much and add to that most of these jobs and characters were boring and uninteresting. The biggest thing about this book is the ending and how it all wrapped up and how all the things were revealed, as crime books go, I like it when the writer gives enough clues for the reader to try to guess and work their way to the solution, but the solution created here was too much of a stretch and kinda wrapped up in a neat bow...which annoyed me.Characters: Charlie stands out, I really enjoy his voice in the series so far, that's the reason I still keep reading and will keep reading, Charlie is a fun character. His internal dialog and his interactions with others is fun and it's interesting, add Victoria in the mix and it was magic. I just wished that the rest of the cast this time around was interesting, but honestly the story was lacking and I hoped the characters would pick up the slack but we don't really have anyone that stands out. I hope the next book will be better.I liked it, I did not love it, the story let the book down but Charlie is keeping me from leaving this series for now.Onward to the next book! Another entertaining installment of the mess that is Charlie's life. Thief and author writing about a thief and getting into trouble yet again while thieving and trying to finish his latest novel. Setting of Paris is always a joy even if plot wise this one wasn't as cleanly resolved as the previous book. I like the character of charlie and his agent Victoria and the audiobook reader is part of why I like the series. I get the feeling that if I was reading the books instead of listening to his excellent performance that it might possibly be less fun. Looking forward to the next one in the series.
