About book Küçük Mucizem (2014)

I was surprised how much I liked this book. I started reading it at the doctors office one morning and spent the rest of the morning until I had to go to work finishing it. The characters are well developed and I felt like it did a good job portraying the life of a caregiver to a mentally handicapped child. The only issues I had were the time gaps and the perspectives of Chole. For me the time gaps were some times a little abrupt and it was like "Then this happened and six months passed." With Chole's perspective, I understand what the author was trying to do, however the first time the perspective changed it was abrupt and I was like "What is going on?" Also I didn't think they really added all that much to the story and could've been left out. In this mother-daughter story Alicia Richards has raised her 25-year-old daughter, Chloe by herself since she was a baby. Chloe was diagnosed shortly after birth with Down's Syndrome. She has grown into a funny, content young woman and they share a special relationship.Chloe attends adult daycare while Alicia works as a college professor. While there she meets Thomas and after a few days announces their intention to get married. It is a well written story of love, frustration and fears, and learning to let go. I would like to read another book by this author.Book Club selection for May.
