About book Kisses From Katie (Library Edition): A Story Of Relentless Love And Redemption (2011)

Kisses From Katie by Katie Davis is a great read for those waiting to be inspired to serve God. Katie, a senior in high school, leaves for Uganda to volunteer and preach the Word of Jesus Christ. The book challenges us to live and lead a better, selfless life. Katie is a great inspiration to go out to the world and give what you can to serve God. Katie Davis is inspiring to all Christians. Jesus Christ called us to serve him by spreading the Word of the Lord. Katie Davis leaves everything she knows and everyone she loves to serve in Uganda and adopt thirteen children. This includes her hometown, college opportunity, family, and serious boyfriend. The sacrifice of leaving is almost unbearable at times. On page 227, Katie shows a note she wrote when leaving her boyfriend. It explained how it was hard to keep the relationship, and how she knew the Lord wanted her to be solidly devoted to her time in Uganda. After the letter, Katie states she still gets emotional. "I still cry when I read these words I wrote so long ago. I still feel the sharp pain of that loss. The thought of spending eternity with Jesus, however, makes the pain seem trivial and momentary." This quote is inspiring because it shows how Katie found peace and love in Jesus. All Christians can learn from Katie and her devotion to God by knowing through any circumstance, He will love us unconditionally and be our support. Jesus tells us to serve him by spreading His good news. Katie Davis leaves everything behind to fulfill God's calling to her. Her book challenges us to serve God in any way we can, because she left everything to do so. Davis is a great inspiration for all. In the book "Kisses From Katie" written by Katie Davis, the main character Katie Davis decides that she wants to go to Uganda while in high school to teach and fell in love with the place. A major theme in the book would to have commitments me love because without those two major themes Katie would have not been able to have start over in Uganda and to love all the new people she met. Another theme would be sacrifice. If Katie had not sacrificed her first year of college to go half way around the world Katie would have not gotten to influence so many people and start a family on her own. The last theme in this book is love because if Katie had not shown love towards the kids they would have not opened up to her nor they would of trusted her. Without all these major concepts Katie would of not been able to do what she did for how long she did it. Katie Davis did not have the average American life. Katie started out her senior year being prom queen, top of her class, and class president. That seems like a pretty normal life until she decides she wants to go to Uganda for three weeks for a mission trip. Katie ends up falling in love with the place which causes her to postpone her freshman year of college to be a teacher. Her parents weren't on board with this idea, but Katie promised shed only be there for a year because she thought it was her calling from God. She ended up starting a new life and adopting 14 girls and is currently still living there. " I believe there is only one truly courageous thing we can do with our lives: to love unconditionally. Absolutely, with all of ourselves, so much that it hurts and then more." (Davis 251). It is saying that you need to love someone, who doesn't get a lot of love from others, so much that it hurts. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes inspirational stories.

While I think Katie has accomplished a great deal for being so young and has such a conviction to be in Uganda, caring for those who need it most, I just could not get into this book. I kept picking it up, trying to get through it, but was unsuccessful. I was expecting a certain amount of religious text to be including, I figured I could skim over those parts. It was just too much to get through. I'm more interested in the stories of the children, who they are, their personalities, their dreams, and not so much interested in bible scriptures and constant references to bible stories. I have always had a particular interest in Uganda, and charities that are in place for women and children. I guess I was looking for something with more substance and less bible quoting.
