About book Kisses For Katie (2000)

Great book. Story of her journey to do something outrageous for God. I love her take on it. While her story would be considered sensational by some, she really leans into this concept of all she was doing was following where it felt God was leading her. Nothing grandiose, just a willingness to move. She helped to take the pressure off that sometimes established Christians get in not being sure if they are where God wants them. If he wants you somewhere, he will lead you there or make it pretty hard for you to ignore. Katie HalmekangasMs. Peyman12-4-14Book ReviewKisses From Katie Kisses From Katie, written by Katie Davis, is an enticing book that invites the reader on her adventures in Uganda. She writes in her diary about her daily struggles and how God gives her the strength to succeed. It is an extraordinary story that shows that God's love is in everyone, even in Uganda. Katie Davis is a senior who decided to put her trust in god and go on a mission trip to Uganda for her Christmas break. Little did she know, she would be staying in Uganda for a year and creating her new family of orphaned or sick children. On page 3 Katie states that, " I found Uganda to be a beautiful land filled with beautiful people". Katie knew all of the kids of Uganda needed her help to fight infections and protect them while teaching about God's everlasting love. She made a ministry, Amazima, that feeds and sends hundreds of kids to school while teaching them about Jesus Christ. She went back home to raise money and spread awareness about the needs of food and water for the people of Uganda. Katie owns a decently-sized house that hundreds of kids go to eat and bathe since most children in Uganda don't have much food or water. She adopts 13 children as well as loving all of the kids as her own. In fact, everyone around calls Katie "Mommy". She helps everyone in need, even if she is giving away her last resources. Katie asks for God's grace to love and care for the children of Uganda. God has touched so many people's hearts through Katie in her life living in Uganda. God shows many supernatural miracles that affect Katie and how she really is making a difference. In conclusion this was a really interesting story to read. It motivates you to actually give to those in need. After all, we do have a lot to give to the less fortunate. This story is well written and even includes some excerpts from her diary that same was writing in when she first arrived in Uganda. I would totally recommend this book to anyone who loves happy, heartwarming stories about Jesus' love.

It was hard for me to wrap my mind around this concept since this really is my worst nightmare. Not the whole "moving to a rural community in Africa" bit - we have that in common - but adopting so many children at such a young age! Horrifying. But to each their own, I guess. As far as the writing goes, it wasn't awful...just unnecessary. It feels about 100 pages too long (which is saying a lot when its only 200ish pages). Its the same concept in the form of different stories - love unconditionally, give freely, trust God's plans for your life, etc. A good Christian read about a young woman who dared to defy the conventional American lifestyle. I have to respect her for that. It may not be my dream (or many others, i can imagine!) but it doesnt have to be, which is the whole point.

So incredibly moving and inspiring. I give it to all young women who have a desire for missions.
