Life is too short to slog through books I am not connecting with. Any tenuous connection I may have felt with this one broke when the heroine pulled her first stupid. So I moved on to By Winter's Light by Stephanie Laurens, which I finished in no time. You may see my review if you wish. Now it's The Kraken King by Meljean Brook. It doesn't bode well for a book when 2 unrelated titles are mentioned in the review. It has a nice and engaging story. The whole "girl down on her luck and trying to take care of her family" has been done many times before, but this is one of the better ones in my opinion. I also like the interesting take on vampires being the result of a disease. At least they don't sparkle. I liked Blade and thought he was rather interesting. I would have like to know more about his past and his sister Emily. Honoria was "meh" for me and there were times I really wanted to shake some sense into her. I had a few eye rolling moments but thankfully they were few. As a whole, the world was interesting and the characters engaging. It was a fast and fun read.
This was a fun book to listen to. It made a horrible rainy drive more interesting!
