About book Kiss Of Rose Princess, Band 1 (2012)

I've been looking for a good new shoujo/supernatural type manga to read and i saw this one keep coming up on my goodreads recommendations... so i read the first couple volumes online and i'm hooked! I love the art style and the main character Anis is super entertaining. There's a good mystery and the plot moves forward fast enough that you can't put it down. I'm obsessed with this. As of now i've read like the firs, 18 volumes? I think that's where i'm at. and I can't get enough!! It seriously needs to get an anime. I picked this one up (like most of my other manga) through MangaFox.I have to admit that I wasn't expecting much from this series. It seemed cute, but it also looked like it'd be one of those mangas that have a great idea but drag it out with overly repetitive themes. (Lather, rinse, repeat for 10-20 volumes or until it gets forcibly ended.) While there's still the potential for this series to become overly dragged out, this first volume was really fun to read. The idea of this series is a old tried and true trope: "average" girl (who just so happens to look drop dead gorgeous in true manga style) discovers that she has the ability to do something extraordinary that also happens to draw several bishies close to her. Of course there's the "friend I hate but will end up secretly loving" character and a host of other manga tropes. If you're looking for new breakout themes, you won't find it here. Yet somehow this really is an entertaining read. Our heroine is funny and the guys are endearing enough to where I wanted to keep reading. The general idea of the series might have been done before in several different formats, but ideas like these are popular for a reason and BaraKiss does a good job of providing a decent setup for future volumes. The only warning I'll give people is that I'm not sure how well this will fare when stretched over several volumes. The setup here is good, but it'll need more in order to justify having umpteen volumes. Even so, I predict that it won't be long before this series finds itself getting an official English language release.
