About book King Goes To The Movies: Vijf Verfilmde Verhalen (2009)
It was my first Stephen King so thanks to my friend who recommended it :) Just the name of "Shawsank Redemption" was enough to drew me towards it as I have seen the brilliant movie so obviously the book has to be equally good if not better. That story is absolutely great and you will agree that the movie has done complete justice with the story.There are 4 more stories here which have also been made into movies sometime or the other. 3 of these stories has a horror angle to it which definitely makes it a interesting read! It is the 5th story which really stole the honor for me here- "Hearts in Atlantis". It is absolutely great. A story told from the eyes of an 11 year old boy about his life which has all the elements of keeping us glued. The movie goes by the name of "Low Men in Yellow Coats" so might watch it some day too. The book also has a rating by SK himself where he picks his best 10 movies based on his books which goes like this in alphabetical order - Apt Pupil, Cujo, Dolores Claiborne, 1408, The Green Mile, Misery, The Mist, The Shawshank Redemption(obviously!), Stand by Me and Storm of the Century. A pretty good compilation of some of King's more notable short works. The definition of "short" is stretched here, in my opinion, with the inclusion of the novellas "Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption" and "Low Men in Yellow Coats." That being said though, those stories make the compilation worth it by far for the casual fan who hasn't picked up the collections these stories are from. There are some other, truly short stories included here as well, and those would be the primary reason for my low score."The Mangler" and "Children of the Corn" are early King and it's obvious in their lack of depth. "The Mangler" is completely ridiculous and worthy of any ridicule King has garnered over the years for writing comic book level crap. Those criticisms aren't true, of course, but "The Mangler" was his first published story and he had yet to figure out how to blend the supernatural with believable stories and characters that people care about. "Children of the Corn" is a bit more enticing, but also fairly superficial."1408" is, on the other hand, a very well written story about a haunted hotel and is also quite worth reading.

Children of the Corn is great! Even though the movie was very corny, the book is really scary.
