This book is not for the faint of heart or the easily offended. It's probably not even for the moderately offendable. It is, however, a dark and hilarious look into the lavish and amoral 90s music industry through the eyes of one of one of its fictional participants, the sociopath Steven Stelfox. The book has good pace and consistent tone, and it somehow keeps surprising you with just how disgusting and deviant it can be.As a mere toler, it certainly was a look into "another world" for me, even if Stelfox is an (hopefully) exaggerated amalgamation of all that is ill about the industry. Brutal writing style - Makes Bukowski read like Jane Austen. Not 100% sure if I loved it or hated it actually. I most certainly hated the lead character & had heard of a lot of the names he writes about as its set in the music industry when I was involved - mid 90’s the boom time. He mentioned loads of failed bands that I designed album covers for infact. Would I read another John Viven book? Give me a year off first I think.
Oddly dissatisfying. Horrible, nasty characters, class-A drugs, sex, violence yet a bit dull.
