About book Kiinan Kadotetut Tyttäret (2010)

Xinran explores the lives of Chinese women who have given up their daughters. The stories are heartbreaking and show the harsh conditions of rural China. Many of the daughters who were given up for adoption feel their mothers didn't love them, which is not true. Their Chinese mothers were forced to give them up because of reasons such as cultural traditions, poverty, and the one-child policy. Years later the birth mothers long to see their daughters and know they are doing well.
