Do You like book Khasakinte Ithihasam (2000)?
ഖസാക്കിന്റെ ഇതിഹാസം' ആദ്യവായനയിൽ മനസ്സിലാകില്ല. എല്ലാവർക്കും അങ്ങിനെ തന്നെയാണ്. ഇതിഹാസം നമ്മിൽ നിന്നു കുറച്ചു 'സാഹിത്യമ്പരിചയം' ആവശ്യപ്പെടുന്നുണ്ട്. സാഹിത്യത്തിൽ പുതുമുഖമായവർക്കോ, ഇത്തരം കഥനരീതികൾ പരിചിതരല്ലാത്തവർക്കും ആദ്യവായനയിൽ അരുചി തോന്നാം.വീണ്ടും വീണ്ടും വായിക്കുക എന്നേ പറയാനുള്ളൂ. ഓർക്കുക, മലയാളസാഹിത്യത്തിൽ ഇതിഹാസം ഒന്നേയുള്ളൂ. അത് 'ഖസാക്കിന്റെ ഇതിഹാസം' തന്നെയാണ്. സംശയിക്കേണ്ട.

I wanted to read the Itihasam for nearly 30 years, but finally made it now only. Khasakhinte Itihasam remains one of the best loved books in Malayalam literature. In my view, the book’s speciality is its simplicity and complexity at the same time. It could be seen as a book narrating lives of a few ordinary people struggling to get on with their lives in a remote Palakkadan village. A story someone else can convert into an action packed thriller. What stands out is the novelist’s ability to write the local slang in such way that it would sound like slang when read out loud. An interesting comparison is with O. V. Vijayan’s cartoons, which produced abundant emotions in a few curved lines. His books showcase his skill to narrate human emotions and conflicts with minimum use of words. I am glad I finally read it. What I am sad is the concern that future Malayali generations, destined to use a heavily diluted Malayalam, will struggle to understand his language.
