About book Key Lime Blues (2000)

Mike Jastrzebski, $3.99 **** Humor is easy to write. Humor that's actually funny is much harder. Jastrzebski makes it look easy in this fast-paced, action-packed mystery set in Key West.Introducing 29-year-old, ex-Detroiter, ex-PI, Wes Darling. He's got big time girl trouble. A mother who speaks fluent manipul-ese, a hostile Key West Homicide detective, a boss who's immune to his charms, and a tall, red-headed stripper whose middle name is trouble. And he isn't doing much better with the men in his life. This book was better at the beginning than the end. The story dragged, and the writer used too many metaphors ("I felt a tingling along the back of my neck, like a poisonous spider had bitten me and the venom was spreading.") The main character's mother seemed like a rip-off of the mother of the main character on the TV series "Burn Notice". The writer was trying for a Carl Hiassen kind of story, but this was not as fun to read as a Hiassen book. There were several typos, which did not make it easier to get through the book. Decent effort, but could have been better.
