I was hoping for Horton to take aim at the modern culturally sensitive church but he steers a middle ground attacking passive monergists and active synergists alike when they drift too far from the central message of the gospel that Christ died.to redeem a people for himself that couldn't, wouldn't and didn't keep God's standard, and despite our efforts for social justice, or moral rectitude will stand before a thrice holy God clothed in Christ's righteousness alone. Simply wonderful. Reinforced the truth of the gospel as a proclamation of good news, and if any message/method doesn't line up with that, but rather focuses on how I can be good, or win back city hall, or stop pollution, is not preaching the gospel but is preaching law.There is a bit of repetition and too many Barna quotes at once can be depressing (both for what Barna himself believes and what he reports Evangelicals' believing). This book is highly recommended and easily read (I read it in one afternoon).
