About book Keep The Change: A Clueless Tipper's Quest To Become The Guru Of The Gratuity (2010)

More a look at the perils of working in the service industry. The whole information can be summarized at the end that if you don't know how much to someone, ask them, they'll tell you accurate information. Sense my skepticism there. It is useful to realize which groups you may have been overlooking tipping, and which of your father's advice is outdated. His voice is one I wasn't too enthralled with--here's a guy who likes drinking, smoking, hanging out in strip clubs. So not someone who's in my social circle. I was really excited to start this book. I have always felt so clueless about tipping, and never knew what & who were supposed to be tipped outside of sit-down restaurants. After listening to this book, I feel much better informed, but at the same time, upset. I understand that many of the professions rely on tipping to make a living, but if they expect it, why not go out and outright say what is expected! I think it is incredibly unfair to assume everyone knows who is supposed to be tipped what percentage for which level of service. Its overwhelming! At least I now feel like I know the "true cost" of services, but to be honest, this book just made me want to avoid all places that require tips!
