Katie the dog is so excited when her owner Sara Ann brings home three new little kittens. Katie is so excited she howls, wagges her tail, and jumps aroud scaring the kittens. After several attempts trying to make friends with the kittens Katie gives up and goes to sleep. When she awakes she notices the three kittens are sleeping on top of her. Friends at last! This is a cute book with several repeated lines that would make it a great read aloud. The pictures are great. Katie is an enthusiastic dog who happens to love KITTENS! This is a great story to share with young children as most of them can identify with family pets. This book is also good for discussing friendship and emotion as the children learn about how Katie felt when the new kittens come home, how she felt when they ran away from her and how they feel when their friends don't want to play with them. When discussing family pets or friends this book could add several words to a classroom word wall, be used to make lists, retell stories, graph family pets or just to serve as a conversation starter in a classroom struggling with making friends.
