Juniper Berry has a fairly simple straight-forward plot. A girl and her friend find that they could have anything they want in the world or be anything they want but for a price that you'll be able to figure out fairly easily. The idea is rich with metaphor and I even thought it could be a good book discussion for students who have parents who are addicts to spark conversation. I like that Juniper is very concerned with her parents though 75% of the book talks about this at nauseam. It is a big pet peeve when books just talk about the same thing over and over again to fill pages with no real development in plot and character. (see twilight and pretty much every romance book ever written). This is my big issue with this book. It could have been half as long and still had the same effect. Preachy and boring, albeit with some good imagery. The characters were well written enough to pull me through the first half of the book, but then it turned flat, and towards the end I could almost hear the author saying to me "And this, boys and girls, is why you should be happy with what you have." The author put in just enough violence and creepiness to make you think you were in for a great tale.
